Johnny & Stephanie | Toronto Winter Engagement Session

I still can't believe I am writing this! My brother is engaged and I could not be happier! It seems like just yesterday I was knocking on my big brother's door each night terrified of what could be lurking in the dark, as he graciously allowed me to sleep on the carpet... on the ground... beside his bed.

Johnny and Stephanie's love story began while they were both attending McMaster University. They first met at the iconic "Dalewood house." A student house just off campus that was well known for never locking its door at night - seriously, even the raccoons knew! It was a meeting hub for Johnny and many of his friends, and it just so happened that Stephanie lived there. Johnny was immediately drawn to her, however - plot twist - it was not love at first sight. I am not sure if it was his bushy eyebrows, infectious personality or persistence but after months of pursuing her, Stephanie gave in!

Soon after, Johnny brought our tiny little Woodbridge-ian home to meet the family. It was an immediate fit. I would never have imagined that this sweet lady would not only become such an integral part of our family, but also one of my very best friends! I couldn't have picked a better partner for my brother if I scoured the profiles of eHarmony myself. The fact that she is a cannoli addict is just an added plus!

4 years post-Dalewood, during a beautiful snowy winter day, Johnny got down on one knee and asked Stephanie for forever! After enjoying many congratulatory hugs, kisses, and toasts of prosecco we began to plan their engagement session. Stephanie was hoping for their shoot to be photographed in the winter. After waiting weeks for snowfall, we were graced with the perfect day. It was something right out of a snow globe! We returned right to the spot where Johnny proposed for their session - take a peak!

To say I am over-the-moon excited about their engagement and the upcoming #DelBruno wedding is an understatement! I cannot wait to cheer these two on for all of life's adventures that lie in store for them.

Free $ from The City of Hamilton

Last year I was involved in an incredible program offered though the city of Hamilton's Small Business Enterprise Centre (SBEC) called "Starter Company". This is an initiative that targets young entrepreneurs looking to launch their own business. Not only does the program offer free training and free mentorship to all candidates but also... free money! Hold up, wait a minute... now that I have your attention, yes I said free money!

So what's the catch?

Show up + create and refine business plan + pitch concept = recieve funding

No catch!

The SBEC provides information, resources and mentorship from local business leaders to assist in the launch and successful growth of all businesses. Mentors assist candidates in creating a proper business plan to enhance the vision of all start ups. Once complete all candidates are to pitch their plan to a panel of successful business professionals. Think Dragon's Den - but much more encouraging (no Mr. Wonderful)! After the pitch and a brief Q&A period  it is on the shoulders of the panel to approve the grant.

Naturally, the obvious incentive to complete the program is to receive the grant money. I will admit that $5,000 in funding undeniably helped further my business in many aspects which I am incredibly grateful for. However, I did not anticipate that the completion of the program would prove much more valuable than the money itself. As a graduate of the Starter Company program I continue to make connections, relationships, leads, referrals and friends. I am grateful to the staff and mentors at the SBEC for their ongoing support and guidance throughout and long after my completion of the program.

Baby Penelope | Newborn Session

Documenting genuine and heart felt moments between a baby and their new world is something I absolutely love. The fuzzy booties, knit sweaters, and scarf swaddle are immediate give aways that this newborn session was photographed earlier this year in the midst of winter. Baby Penelope’s session was extra special with the addition of her two siblings making an appearance throughout the day. Her brother and sister ensured there was no shortage of excitement, laughter and fun! Penelope was a natural in front of the camera, flashing her adorable smile countless times- take a look!

2016 Year in Review

Having just recently completed my first full year in business and with the back to school season in full swing, now is the perfect time to look back and reflect. This past year I had the privilege of documenting countless memories, and in the process was fortunate enough to meet some seriously beautiful people along the way! Each of which deserve some big thank you's!

Thank you to my clients, without you this crazy dream of mine would not be possible. Thank you to my mentors within the industry for your constant encouragement and guidance. Thank you to my mentors outside of the industry for pretending to understand wedding lingo, shutter speeds, and bokeh, while offering much needed advice regarding taxes and accounting. Thank you to my family and friends for your numerous referrals and acting as my personal cheerleaders. Lastly, thank you to my parents for inspiring me every single day as you continue to demonstrate what true love looks like!

The friendships, relationships and connections that I have made and maintained over the past year have been invaluable to my life, both business and personal. I am truly so appreciative! There is something to be said for loving what you do each and every day. I am so fortunate to have found my niche within the wedding and lifestyle photography industry. Having the opportunity to create memories for couples and families that will be treasured for years to come is something I am honoured to be a part of.

I cannot wait to see what year 2 brings!
