Something Blue | Cambridge Styled Wedding Shoot

The images from our Something Blue Styled Wedding Shoot have been vaulted deep within my external hard drives until last week when the entire shoot in all of its beauty was finally featured on Artfully Wed. Now that the images have gone public I figured it was about time to share my absolute favourites from this shoot that came together beautifully last summer. Although planning and executing a styled shoot in the midst of wedding season was a hustle, thanks to an incredibly talented team of vendors and assistants this shoot turned out better than I could have ever imaged!

The inspiration for this styled wedding shoot was taken from the long standing “something blue” bridal tradition. Soft pewter and sky blues mixed with pops of royal and navy tones were integrated into the colour palette for the majority of décor, florals and accessories.

Aiming for a soft, romantic, European elegance, Hacienda Sarria, a wedding venue inspired by the Spanish “The Road to Santiago de Compostela” walk, was an obvious choice to host the shoot. The venue, located in Kitchener, Ontario emulates a European feel with its Spanish style architecture, stone masonry and wooden doors.

Our beautiful bride Ashley, (recently married and now reliving bridal bliss) modeled not one but two stunning gowns supplied by Sash & Bustle. The first was a set by Claire La Faye, which included an ivory slip, emery lace overlay and whimsical tulle skirt. The second dress was a Truvelle gown complete with a flirty front slit lined with soft lace. Vintage inspired custom headpieces created by Frilly Bits enhanced each bridal look.

The floral designs that were flawlessly executed solidified my firm belief that there is nothing Blooms & Bliss can’t do! The florals completely transformed the shoot and tied everything together seamlessly. The eye catching asymmetrical floral arch commanded attention, while the striking bouquet took each bridal look to the next level!

The entirety of the impressive dessert table was created and designed by DessertGardenXo. A variety of of treats including cakes, chocolates, cookies, cupcakes, and cake pops adorned the table - it was hard not to get caught staring (and or salivating) in the direction of this incredibly sweet display. The inclusion of blueberries to further tie the colour palette together was a perfect choice.

Last, but certainly not least, the invitation suite, stationary, menu and place cards were designed in full and printed by Simply Sealed. The delicate stationary tied in perfectly with its timeless details such as the wax seal, calligraphy, venue sketch and matching stamps.

This  “Something Blue” inspired shoot proves that inspiration can be found in even the oldest of traditions.

Jodi & Don | Whitehern Wedding

Meet Jodi and Don. This sweet couple first met online, back in the days where you didn't quite know if you were chatting with an 80 year old man from Missouri on the other side of the screen or not. You can imagine their relief when they finally met and there wasn't a Missourian in sight, phew!

Ten years and three cats later - in the age where online dating is now socially acceptable - Don proposed on one of the most magical nights, Christmas Eve!

It all started with a date to see the local light display at Glenhyrst Gardens in Brantford. From there, they drove to a rose garden that holds sentimental value for Jodi. Her grandmother's ashes and memorial stone reside in the garden. Knowing the significance it was here that Don proposed, but not before Jodi interrupted him to make sure the car door was locked! Safety first people!

With their family as their witnesses Jodi and Don sealed the deal this summer. They were wed during a quaint mid-week ceremony in the beautiful gardens at Whitehern Historic House, what's more, their wedding took place on their 11th anniversary! These two were graced with a gorgeous summer day as they recited vows, exchanged rings and committed their lives to each other.

When Jodi and Don aren't being absolute sweethearts and finding ways to spoil each other with thoughtful surprises, they can be found snuggling first thing in the morning with their cats and enjoying date nights together.

Enjoy a few of my faves from Jodi and Don's intimate garden wedding below!

2017 Year in Review

New couples, new love stories, same witty brunette.

Pretty sure there's gotta be a horse shoe up my butt. Yeah, you read that right. But there's no other way to explain this feeling - wait what?! That didn't sound right... let me explain why I feel incredibly lucky.

When I purchased my first camera in high school I spent time photographing friends, family, and more often than not, our adorable dog. I would have laughed out loud if someone had told me back then that I would own my own business just a few short years later and make a living documenting love stories.

The last two years owning and operating my business has provided me with more knowledge than any single line item that appears on the education section of my LinkedIn profile #thatmadesenseinmyhead

This past wedding season in particular reinforced my love of love and passion for wedding photography. I had incredible feats, cried behind my camera during almost every single father daughter dance, hugged more grandma's than I can count and fixed countless veils.

In contrast, I have had my fair share of melt-down-days where I was sure I'd throw my laptop right out the window if my editing software crashed just one more time. I had moments of loneliness while cooped up finishing galleries, and am certain I came pretty close to a Vitamin D deficiency spending hours at my desk trying to keep up with editing and stay on track of timelines.

This particular year has been a complete labor of love, which payed off when I was fortunate enough to quit my corporate gig to pursue photography full time. Let me tell you, I haven't looked back!

These past two years have flown by and with them countless couples and families inviting me to document some of the happiest times of their lives. I cannot wait for what year three has in store!

In case you were wondering what a typical day in the life looks like on the job, I unearthed a few gems for your viewing pleasure.

10 Tips for Beautiful Wedding Preparation Images

There are so many details that go into the planning of a wedding day that the morning preparation often gets overlooked. Don't worry I've got you covered! I am sharing 10 tips to implement that will ensure beautiful wedding preparation images!

bridalpreparation_alexandradelbellophotography_weddingphotographer_hamiltonphotographer 2.jpg

1. Share your creative vision with your photographer ahead of time. Sit down and determine what images are important during your morning prep and relay this information to your photographer via email or a dedicated Pinterest board.

2. Beauty details and scheduling. Have your make up and hair scheduled to be completed before or just after the photographer arrives.

3. It's all in the details. Have all of your bits and bobs (invitation, ring, veil, jewelry, perfume) together and ready for your photographer ahead of time.

4. Location, location, location! Choose a room that is spacious with lots of natural light and simple room decor. When possible secure a location that is close to your ceremony venue to make the most of your preparation time.

5. Clean your ring. Not only will friends and family be sneaking a peak of your ring all day, but it will get up close and personal with your photographer during detail shots.

6. Keep it clean! Try to keep all clutter (water bottles, snacks, bobby pins) in one area so it does not make its way into any images

7. Create an intentional timeline. When organizing your schedule anticipate to have your photographer arrive at least 2 hours before you plan to depart for the ceremony. This will ensure there is enough time to capture details, portraits, candids and everything in between!

8. Assign duties. Don't be afraid to designate day-of responsibilities to your wedding party. Whether it be something as simple as ensuring your lipstick is packed in your handbag, or a little more involved such as keeping an eye on the time to make sure things run smoothly. This will help to alleviate stress on your big day.

9. Don't worry about your groom! It is easy to get caught up thinking about what your groom may be up to with his boys. Instead, pour those mimosas and cherish the bonding time you have got with your girls!

10. Most importantly: Remember to enjoy yourself, after all it is finally your wedding day! With the natural buzz and excitement in the air make sure to enjoy each moment and take it all in because the day truly does fly by!

Johnny & Stephanie | Toronto Winter Engagement Session

I still can't believe I am writing this! My brother is engaged and I could not be happier! It seems like just yesterday I was knocking on my big brother's door each night terrified of what could be lurking in the dark, as he graciously allowed me to sleep on the carpet... on the ground... beside his bed.

Johnny and Stephanie's love story began while they were both attending McMaster University. They first met at the iconic "Dalewood house." A student house just off campus that was well known for never locking its door at night - seriously, even the raccoons knew! It was a meeting hub for Johnny and many of his friends, and it just so happened that Stephanie lived there. Johnny was immediately drawn to her, however - plot twist - it was not love at first sight. I am not sure if it was his bushy eyebrows, infectious personality or persistence but after months of pursuing her, Stephanie gave in!

Soon after, Johnny brought our tiny little Woodbridge-ian home to meet the family. It was an immediate fit. I would never have imagined that this sweet lady would not only become such an integral part of our family, but also one of my very best friends! I couldn't have picked a better partner for my brother if I scoured the profiles of eHarmony myself. The fact that she is a cannoli addict is just an added plus!

4 years post-Dalewood, during a beautiful snowy winter day, Johnny got down on one knee and asked Stephanie for forever! After enjoying many congratulatory hugs, kisses, and toasts of prosecco we began to plan their engagement session. Stephanie was hoping for their shoot to be photographed in the winter. After waiting weeks for snowfall, we were graced with the perfect day. It was something right out of a snow globe! We returned right to the spot where Johnny proposed for their session - take a peak!

To say I am over-the-moon excited about their engagement and the upcoming #DelBruno wedding is an understatement! I cannot wait to cheer these two on for all of life's adventures that lie in store for them.
